SyMAP IRP: International Reference Pricing Simulation Software

Model how price decisions cascade through IRP networks, with configurable country rules, your own reference formulas, and AI that explains every result.

Rigorous IRP modelling, explained by AI

SyMAP IRP combines transparent International Reference Pricing simulation with an AI engine that interprets results, highlights risks and opportunities, and recommends next steps. It captures country rules, reference baskets, price types, FX, and timing precisely, then turns outputs into defendable strategy. A discounted launch in one market can cascade through reference networks for years; SyMAP IRP shows you exactly where, when, and by how much, with every calculation available for audit.

What is International Reference Pricing? IRP (also called external reference pricing) sets or regulates a drug’s price in one country by reference to its price in others. Most major markets operate some form of IRP, linking prices across borders into a network: one price cut can trigger reassessments in every country that references it, and (under US MFN policy) in US benchmarks too. That interconnection is why simulation, not spreadsheets, is the only way to see the full consequence of a pricing decision. For the strategic background, read The End of Two Silos.

Capabilities

Country Rules & Referencing Modes
  • Configurable reference baskets, review cycles, and price-drop limits per country
  • Referencing modes from exact brand-and-pack matching to any-brand, any-pack comparisons
  • Multiple price types (ex-manufacturer, wholesale, net) with FX shown beside every calculation
Custom Formula Builder New in 2.0
  • Standard formulas built in: lowest, average, median, average of N lowest
  • Author your own reference formulas (aggregates, conditionals, and country-specific terms) in a purpose-built formula language
  • Share formulas and rulesets with your team, or curate them in your deployment’s catalog
Multi-Year Simulation
  • Launch timing, withdrawal dates, and scheduled price changes per market
  • Assessment cycles that recalculate reference prices exactly when each country would
  • Loss-of-exclusivity and generic-entry scenarios across the basket

Scenario Comparison & Series
  • Compare simulations side by side: prices, events, and revenue in one view
  • Run price-increment sweeps and sensitivity series at scale
  • Threshold analysis: find the price point where an outcome flips New in 2.0
Interactive IRP Map
  • Visualise reference relationships between countries on a live map
  • Trace which markets reference which, and where cascades originate
  • Follow price events through the network over time
AI Results Interpretation
  • Plain-language explanation of key drivers behind every result
  • Risks and opportunities highlighted across markets
  • Governed by admin permissions, user confirmation, and audit logging

SyMAP IRP FAQs

Which countries and price types are supported in SyMAP IRP?
SyMAP IRP is designed to accommodate common IRP baskets globally, with configurable reference rules and price types (e.g., ex-manufacturer, wholesale, net). FX sources and conversions are clearly shown alongside every calculation.
Can I define my own IRP reference formulas?
Yes. Alongside the standard built-ins (lowest, average, median, average of N lowest), SyMAP IRP includes a custom formula builder: author reference formulas with aggregates, conditionals, and country-specific terms, then apply them per country in your ruleset. Formulas can be shared with your team or curated into your deployment’s catalog.
What referencing modes does SyMAP IRP support?
Four modes control how comparator products are matched in each country: exact same brand and pack, same brand (any pack), same pack size (any brand), or all packs and brands. This lets the simulation mirror how each authority actually selects reference products.
Can I compare IRP scenarios side by side?
Yes. The comparison view puts two or more saved simulations next to each other: prices, events, and revenue. Simulation series automate the generation of scenario sets: price-increment sweeps, sensitivity runs, and threshold analysis that finds the price point where an outcome changes.
How transparent are the calculations?
Fully. Every reference price shows its formula, basket, matched products, FX conversion, and timing. Event logs record each assessment and price change, so results can be audited and documented for internal governance or external discussion.
